Led by award-winning travel journalist Yulia Denisyuk

Yulia Denisyuk is a veteran travel photographer and writer with work in The New York Times, National Geographic, TIME, Lonely Planet, Conde Nast Traveler, AFAR, and more. She has traveled on assignments to places like Mongolia and Rwanda and worked with multiple tourism boards. Yulia has led travel media workshops and masterclasses for National Geographic Traveler, Society of American Travel Writers, Wanderful, and more. She is also the founder of Travel Media Lab.

  • Yulia will lead the morning sessions covering the #onassignment media trip from start to finish from the lens of a travel journalist

    • 9:00 - 9:15 Welcome

    • 9:15 - 10:00 Finding story angles

    • 10:00 - 10:45 Fundamentals of pitching

    • 10:45 - 11:00 Break

    • 11:00 - 11:30 Working with tourism boards: before, during, after

  • Together with Discover Puerto Rico, Yulia will co-lead sessions aimed to develop your understanding of working with tourism boards

    • 11:30 – 12:00: Know your destination

    • 12:00 – 12:30 How to maximize your chances of being hosted

    • 12:30 – 12:45: Break

    • 12:45 – 1:30: Brainstorming session on PR story angles

    • 1:30 - 2:30 Lunch

  • We won’t spend the whole day in the classroom. In the afternoon, join us for a field trip to La Placita de Santurce where we’ll interview local businesses

    • 2:30 - 3:30: Foundation for Puerto Rico

    • 3:30 - 6:00 Interviews & field trip

In the afternoon, we’ll get outside & explore Santurce, San Juan’s vibrant art & design district and visit La Placita, the farmer’s market and the local community center.
